The City of Gelsenkirchen’s child daycare portal (Kitaportal) gives you an overview of all primary-level daycare services offered in the city by the various providers.
You’ll find information on child daycare facilities, large daycare centres and individuals providing child daycare services. You can find out from the comfort of your own home about the different care services on offer in Gelsenkirchen and register your child for one or more of your preferred services.
To register your child, you simply sign up on the child daycare portal and then get a personal user account. Via smart phone, tablet or computer, you have 24/7 access from anywhere to your registrations and messages on the child daycare portal.
You enter what you’re looking for on the portal (e.g. registration date or proximity to where you live), and the programme shows you child daycare facilities, large daycare centres and/or individuals providing child daycare services that might suit you.
You can find out more about each service by clicking on the relevant profile. You can register your child for the respective service via the ‘Select service’ button.
If there is a space available for you at a child daycare facility, a large daycare centre or with an individual daycare provider, you receive a message in your user account. Otherwise your registration remains on the waiting list.
The child daycare portal keeps you constantly up to date on the status of your child’s registration on the waiting list.
This online process is, of course, no substitute for an in-person discussion at the daycare facility and/or with a specialist child daycare advisor.

Step 1: Search
Get details of the different daycare services offered by the City of Gelsenkirchen and find a place to suit your child’s needs at a child daycare facility, a large daycare centre or with an individual daycare provider.
Step 2: Select
Select one or more of your preferred services via the ‘Select service’ button.
Step 3: Register
Once you have set up a user account, you can use the ‘My selection’ menu item to register your child with the selected child daycare facilities, large daycare centres or individual daycare providers. Your child is at that point added to the waiting lists of the selected services.
Step 4: Your daycare agreement
You get up-to-date news about your registrations in your user account.
Places are allocated based on the admission criteria of the centre/provider concerned. If you are offered a place, you are informed of this via your user account. If you confirm your wish to take up the offer online within the deadline of 14 days, you can contact the respective child daycare facility and/or advisor and then enter into a daycare agreement.
